Borovets Resort, New Centre of Borovets
Borovets is a popular Bulgarian ski resort settled in Sofia Province, on the northern slope of Rila, at an altitude of 1350 m. Borovets is 10 km from Samokov and about 60 km south of Sofia. There are many hotels, training facilities, art and culture centers, entertainment, eateries and retails in the resort.
In an international competition organized by the Municipality of Samakov, “a golden triangle territory” in the heart of Borovets was expected to be rehabilitated. In this case, Borovets could be more attractive entertainment and ski resort.
The project area is densely woodland. Regarding the landscape conditions, CDS’s proposed a nature friendly modular architecture for the golden triangle which is also planning to spread all over the Borovets to bring new architectural and environmental characteristic in the resort area. 8×8 m units of modular compound were formed by evaluating all local conditions and requirements. These units grouped together according to the location of the trees and remained functions in it. In this case, healthy trees were completely preserved.
The modules were positioned parallel to the slope as much as possible. Basement – Parking Floor have been designed where possible to place it because of existing rhizome ecosystem. Modules were designed as 3 – 4 and 5 storey. Retails were mostly planned on the ground floors and other functions such as education, culture and entertainment were planned on upper floors.
The typologies formed by the combination of modules were designed with all functional and structural flexibility.
